I had some fun today supporting a colleague, Fran, by facilitating a short, focussed knowledge sharing activity with a group of senior leaders.
Her need was , in 30 minutes, to introduce a new plan for an organisation wide learning program about productive conversations. Fran needed to start getting the senior leaders thoughts to feed into the design of the program. So we developed 3 specific questions about 1) the different types of conversations that they see their people having both internally and externally; 2) what can they do to foster a culture of productive conversations and 3) we used the Miracle Question (Focus on the desired future rather than the undesired present) to start framing what success will look like:
It worked well – most people liked that it was targeted and purposeful. I oculd see that some struggled a bit with the speed (eg wanting more time) but they also understood the constraints that Fran was dealing with + it was clear that this was just the beginning of the conversation.
Turns out you can do a lot in 30 minutes.
